We kicked off summer vacation with Bluefoot Pirate Adventures, and it was the perfect way to start the summer. Bluefoot Pirate Adventures can be found on Fort Lauderdale Beach, at the Bahia Mar marina (right across from the basketball courts), so make sure to bring your swim clothes for a swim in the ocean after your adventure.
Bluefoot Pirate Adventure advises that you show up at least 30 minutes prior to your reservation time, and you will not regret doing so. The kids can get tattoos, mustaches, and they get dressed up in pirate gear, while Captain Jack Black entertains with songs and stories.
The pirate crew stayed in character from the minute we arrived at the marina until we stepped off the boat and said our goodbyes. Even safety announcement were done in pirate fashion, and it was impressive how the crew was able to mix safety with fun and keeping everyone’s attention.
The small pirates were in the front of the ship, where they learned pirate knowledge and the crew engaged them throughout the trip.
Parents with little ones could sit either in the middle of the ship or in the front, where we could keep a close eye on the kids while listening to Captain Black Sparrow give a very entertaining tour of the Fort Lauderdale Intracoastal Waterway, and he could even tell us who owned many of the extravagant mansions and yachts on our way.
The highlight of the pirate adventure was when a pirate stole the golden key, and the young pirates had to defeat him with water canons…while avoiding being hit by water themselves. The pirate managed to splash a few nearby boats as well.
After the pirate adventure the kids received pirate treasure bags. Our 12-year-old son did not participate in the games, but he still enjoyed the cruise despite being too cool for pirate adventures. Our two boys ages 9 and 5 truly enjoyed the ride, and they really got into the adventure once a pirate showed up on the water.
Babies and toddlers 2 and under are only $5, and I anticipated sitting with our 2-year-old daughter in my lap the entire time, because she is in a phase where everything scares her. Surprisingly, she quickly overcame her fear and the fearsome pirates must have been the good kind, because she enjoyed the entire pirate adventure.
We were lucky to go sailing on a cloudy day, but we still wore plenty of sunscreen and hats. After our trip with Bluefoot Pirate Adventures, the Frugality Is Free family is in agreement with the 784+ reviewers from Trip Advisor, because Bluefoot Pirate Adventure get 5 out of 5 stars. It was a great experience for everyone in our family, and the Bluefoot crew were professional from beginning to end.
